To achieve successful implementation of a new system it is necessary that end users receive effective training. Ideally systems training should be provided both as "just in time" initial training prior to roll-out and as a refresher resource after the system has gone live.
Systems training should be related to the business processes and set in the relevant business context. This enables users to relate the system requirements to their everyday work. It is important that the training is divided into digestible chunks covering the common tasks to be performed.
E-learning is an effective tool for Systems training as it can provide self paced learning using realistic simulations of the system. It is possible to create different scenarios using representative data to illustrate how the system will be used. After initial guided system walkthroughs, the user can practise carrying out data entry using a simulation with remedial feedback being provided where appropriate. Similar exercises can be created to act as a user assessment.
